Parenting: from my Experience

Myself, Renuka Mallick, presently working as Head Mistress in a High School in Bhubaneswar have been successful in striking a balance between my domestic vis-à-vis institutional works as enumerated below, which I hope would guide the new moms & working women as well.

In my case, Since entered into the teaching profession at a later age of 31, I could take proper care of my first child by ensuring all periodical checkups, proper dieting & could be able to spend more time with her. You should be mentally prepared before attaining motherhood to shoulder the responsibilities of a new born. You have to remain cheerful & jovial during the carrying stage & get yourself medically examined periodically to ensure proper development of the embryo inside. You are expected to have a spiritual bent of mind having good temperament & positive thinking, which will have a direct impact on the baby. Your diet should be so designed, which can transfer proper nourishment for the all round growth of the baby. For Child delivery, you should get admitted before time to any hospital having proper sanitation & take proper care to ensure smooth trouble free child birth.

During post natal period, extra care of the baby, as well as of the mother is required. During that period, assistance of a helping hand is the need of the hour. Working women need to be extra careful & must give as much time to the baby & all the mom’s are required to ensure the child’s breast feeding to enhance baby’s immunity. As the child grows, responds to gestures, try to talk & play with them. Routine medical checkup is a must & keep a proper record thereof for future reference by attending a pediatrician. Then take him to parks, playgrounds to mix with other kids of their age, where they will enjoy varieties of colorful flowers & listen to chirping words. This will keep them cheerful; enhance their mental growth, which will have a lasting positive impact on the child.  At home, especially the mom should devote more time in playing & talking to them & telling short interesting stories especially of our great epics, which will make them courageous & virtuous in future.

Then for initial education nearby good school should be selected & parent need to accompany the child. They have to keep a close watch on the movements & behavior of the child & mix at home as their friend. Make an effort to read their mind & sort out their problems, if any. After school education, suitable vocation as per his choice should be allowed to them for their higher education, in which they can excel & come out successful in life.

A child emulates what they see. So it is imperative on the part of the parents to behave properly, be sensitive & caring to each other at home. Peace, harmony, truthfulness, loyalty , living within one’s means & all other virtues of life should be practiced  in the family, which the child sees & imbibes those qualities in the back of his mind. Then they become a perfect person & proves themselves as an asset to the society.

Primarily mother is the first teacher of the child, who has to make a lot of sacrifice right from taking pains in carrying & giving birth to the child, nurture , nourish , guide & educates them in such a way that the child becomes a good citizen of the nation. The mother, thus, sets an example before other new  moms to follow  her.
